AGINVEST ASIA: Agriculture is Capturing the Attention of Investors
LONDON (PRWEB) August 22, 2011
AGINVEST ASIA says: While financial markets and the economy as a whole have faltered worldwide, agricultural investments have been not just stable, but profitable according to a recent report from the University of Illinois.
The university’s economists compared returns from publicly traded companies from 2007 until the end of the first quarter of 2011 and showed an 8.6% market value increase from agriculture-related companies compared to the S&P 500, which experienced a 2.7% decline.
Murray Wise, CEO of the Westchester Group, a global agricultural asset manager, says “there are people buying farms today who five years ago had no idea they would buy it.”
And Chris Mayer, an investor analyst for the Daily Reckoning and editor of Capital and Crisis, says “as a longer-term theme for investors, agriculture should be a great place to be. I can think of no better asset to own during any kind of financial crisis than farmland or investing in agricultural stocks.”
“In some ways, farmland is even better than gold or silver,” he adds.
“At least farmland is an intrinsically useful thing… [providing] a tangible yield in the form of good things from the earth. We all have to eat.”
Investors keen to capitalize on the investment opportunities agriculture presents will be attending the World Agriculture Investment Conference, Singapore (Nov 15-16). The World Agriculture Investment Conference is an intimate forum designed specifically to facilitate personal meetings with investors, experienced asset managers and leading agribusiness professionals.
George Kiley, event host said “The response to this meeting has been unbelievable. Agriculture is clearly at the top of the agenda for a lot of investors. This meeting differentiates itself by uniquely matching investors, asset managers and agribusiness together, if you are in – or looking to be in – this market, it’s vital you join us in Singapore.”
Kiley continues, “It’s all about real deals, effective partnerships, and honest appraisals of agriculture as an investment vehicle.” Learn more and book your place here: http://bit.ly/rs7Xmr
